Brody's Room

I thought I would post a few pics of our little guys room! As many of you know my husband is a HUGE Washington Redskins fan so when we found out we were having a boy I didn't get much say on how his room would be decorated. I'll be honest I wasn't overly excited about it but after my aunt offered to make his baby bedding and my dad made the huge shelf I think it turned out pretty cute!!

Our 1st few days as a family of 4

Ashlyn wants to hold him non stop-she has been a wonderful big sis so far. She loves to help change his diaper, give him a bath, put his binky in his mouth, and she would love to feed him a bottle but I'm nursing and he hasn't had a bottle just yet.
My sweet little babies-I took this last night, Ashlyn was laying back in our room watching elmo and I checked on her after about 10 minutes and she was out! Been a rough couple of days on her too:)
Nothing sweeter than a sleeping baby!
He doesn't look at all like his daddy!!!
I love this picture!
Sunday after we got home Jason, Brooke, and Lainie came to visit. Ashlyn had spent the night with E-maw and Paw Paw Welborn so they brought her home. I missed my little girl so much! I know she enjoyed being with them instead of at the hospital but wasn't easy on mommy not to be at home with her.
So far things are going great! I feel great-just tired but thats to be expected. Brody has been sleeping at least 3 hrs between feedings at night and Monday night he went almost 5 hrs between. Took him to the Pediatrician yesterday for a weight check and he was up over his birth weight. He was 7.2 when he came home Sunday and yesterday 7.11-dr said I must be producing SUPER MILK cause usually they aren't back to their birth weight until 2 week check-up. He is really a content baby only fusses when he is getting his diaper changed or hungry. Speaking of diaper changes-oh my word does this kid poop. Today I changed 3 poopy diapers in 30 minutes !!

Brody Alan Welborn

Brody Alan Welborn born 10/22/2010 at 5:40 AM-7.10lbs and 20 inches!!

So I'm finally getting a chance to update my blog!! Thought I would start by sharing my delivery story!
Thursday morning started like another day, had a very busy day at work since Friday would for sure be my last day. I had a luncheon to attend for the Chamber and I started having some pretty good contractions during that. I blew them off and went back to work and had a closing at 2 and I remember driving there and felt like I needed to pull the car over because it hurt so bad. Still just thinking oh its not the real deal:) Came back to work and told the girls I was having some pretty good contractions and one of the girls insisted I was in labor-I said NO they are to spiritic! So I finished up my day and told everyone I would see them Friday.

Got home and was telling Ryan that I was having some pretty good contractions all afternoon but I wasn't convinced it was the real deal. I think he knew and immediately got on the internet and was searching for signs of labor vs. false labor and how far apart they need to be before heading to the hospital. I went ahead fixed dinner did some laundry and the contractions were getting closer together. Since my parents are an hour away I decided to call mom about 7 and tell her I thought this was it. She said she had to finish packing a few things and then her and my dad would head over. I kept myself busy around the house until they got there which I think was around 8:30 or 9. At that point the contractions were about 5 min apart and lasting about a minute. I really wanted to wait as long as possible to head to the hospital but started getting a little nervous once they got closer together so about 10 we decided to head to Peoria to St Francis. Dad stayed at the house with Ashlyn and my mom went with us. By the time we got to the hospital the contractions were 2-3 min apart and still lasting about a minute.

I got checked in and was in labor and delivery room by 11:30 and when she checked me I was disappointed to hear I was only a 3. At that point Ifelt like the contractions weren't getting any stronger so I asked if I could walk-that helped bring them closer together and a little more intense. Got checked again and I was a 3-4 about 60% effaced. UGG!! So I decided to have the dr. break my water but 1st I wanted the epidural. I was worried that once she broke my water things would progress like they did with Ashlyn and I wouldn't have time for one. Got my epidural about 1 and I believe the dr. came in about 2 to break my water. There was meconium when she broke my water so she said when he was born they would probably have to hand them over to the nurses right away to clear his airways. I would say about 30 minutes after she broke my water is when his heart rate started dipping during contractions. It would go from 130's down to the 60's during my contractions so the nurses were flipping me from side to side constantly hoping that might release the cord if it was squished. Nothing was working and my contractions at this point weren't getting any stronger or closer together. This went on for a good 2 hours and I was still at a 3/4 60% at 4:30-so they decided to call my dr. to come in. Dr. told them to start me on this fluid that was ran thru the internal contraction monitor that would put water back around the baby since it had a few hours since they broke my water. During this time I started rubbing my belly and talking to him and it really seemed to help. The next few contractions his heart didn't dip and my contractions started to become closer together and more intense. The nurse checked me again around 5 and I was a 6 and 90%. That gave us some hope and all the nurses said whatever I was doing must be working-I think he was scared and needed his mommy to help calm him down:) My Dr got there about 5:20 and we talked a little and then she chatted with the nurses and the resident Dr about everything that was going on with the little guy-at this point my epi had pretty much worn off and I was feeling EVERYTHING I was feeling some pretty intense pressure so she decided to check me and I was COMPLETE!! OMG!! I was overwhelmed at that point, I was in pain, his heart rate dipped really low and I was exhausted-I just wanted him to come out and be OK. I remember her walking over and telling Ryan and my mom who were standing out of the way of all the staff (at this point there was like 8+ people in the room) and telling them that she was going to give me a couple pushes and if he didn't come out they would be rushing me for emergency c-section. I lost it at that point-I just wanted him to be ok but at the same time I didn't want to have a c-section. Ryan came over to me and tried to calm me by telling me what a great job I was doing and when the next contraction came I just had to push with everything I had. Honestly Idon't even remember pushing-I was crying so hard at that point I couldn't catch my breathe but something just took my body over and in 2 pushes he was out!! It was amazing-FINALLY he was here and so perfect-words can't describe what I was feeling at that point. Ryan and I were both crying and just so happy he was ok! He came out with the cord wrapped around his neck twice so I didn't get to hold him for probably 10 minutes after because the NICU team was checking him out. Here is a shortened video Ryan captured when he was first born. I still cry everytime I watch it-what an emotional time it was for us.

No baby yet!

So we are still patiently awaiting the arrival of our little guy. Went to the Dr. Thursday and I'm at a GOOD 2 she said and he is definitely dropped -I have been having some pretty good contractions all week but not enough to send me to the hospital. Dr. J doesn't think I will make it til my due date but if the little booger decides to hold out on us I will be induced Sunday the 24th at midnight. I think Ashlyn is finally starting to understand that her baby brother is going to be joining our family very soon. We keep asking her if she is ready for her little brother to be in his room and for a long time she said NO but the past couple of weeks she is saying YES!! She keeps asking if she can give him a bottle and of course a B (binky). I can't wait to see how she is with him-she is such a little sweet pea and I'm sure she will love him to pieces. Here are a few pictures of Ashlyn practicing with her baby and Zelma:) She is so funny and has quite the imagination these days.

Lainie's 2nd Birthday

Sunday we celebrated Lainie's 2nd Birthday-such a sweetie pie~
Ashlyn LOVED Lainie's new 4 wheeler!
Lainie looks like a speed racer
Is this not the sweetest picture-I know it looks like Ashlyn has her in a head lock but I promise she was just giving her a hug!!
Getting ready for Uncle Jason to take them on a ride! I told Ryan this will have to be our next purchase-she loved it.

Tanners Orchard

Saturday we attempted to take the kids over to Tanners for the afternoon-we weren't there 5 minutes and the rain set in! We were so upset-my mom, dad, Matt, Rachel and Kane had all been looking forward to taking the kids to pick out pumpkins, ride the horses, go thru the corn maze but the weather wouldn't cooperate:(Ashlyn got to ride the real horses too but mommy didn't get a picture cause I was busy buying stuff in the bakery!!
Kids are busy checking out the Lama's
Ashlyn was super excited to pick out the perfect pumpkin.
So many to choose from!

36 week update

I had my 36 week checkup and sono today-Ashlyn and Ryan joined me. Ashlyn wasn't all that excited-I think she was confused more than anything trying to figure out what the lady was doing to mommy. Everything looks great he measured 6.6lbs, head down, and heart rate in the upper 130's. Oh and I'm dilated 1cm-with Ashlyn I never dilated so I figure this is a good sign and I have been feeling all along he will arrive about a week before his due date so I guess we will see if mommy is right:) I'm still feeling great just not sleeping the greatest-oh well just preparing for whats to come. Can't believe in a few short weeks we are going to meet our little guy-we are sooo excited!!!

Ashlyn is 26 months today and I think its safe to say she is potty trained-she no longer wears a pull-up at nap time just at night and usually the only accident is pooping. Couldn't be more proud of her!!! I think she is going to make a great big sister and little helper-I can't wait to see her reaction once he is here. Love this little girl to pieces:)

35 week update

We are officially on the home stretch-YIPPEE!! Friday Ashlyn was feeling under the weather, suffering from an ear infection and running a fever so I stayed home with her. I had a check-up that afternoon so she had to come with me-which is the 1st appt she had been too. My dr. was on vacation and of course I get there and the Dr. I was suppose to see is running over an hr behind b/c of a delivery so I opted to see the nurse practitioner since it was just a reg visit-so I thought. Our little guy's heart rate was in the 120's and he was usually in the upper 140-150's so she said I needed be hooked up to the monitors for 20 minutes for a stress test. Immediately I'm thinking what the world is Ashlyn going to do for 20 minutes when I'm strapped up to the monitors and can't entertain her! After they got me all hooked up and I was laying on the chaise lounge you could just tell she was concerned she wouldn't leave my side it was so cute. She laid next to me the whole time asking me a few questions -"you ok Mommy" and "oh baby! mommy." Good news is he passed with flying colors and after they got me unhooked it was Ashlyn's turn to hear her baby's heartbeat:) she laid down and pulled her shirt up and said "MY BABY." The nurse put the little pad on her tummy and we pretended to little to the baby's heartbeat-it was priceless. So glad she was able to go to the appt with me-might have to take her next week for our last sono appt!!

GO REDSKINS!

As many of you know my husband is a HUGE Washington Redskins fan-I love that football has started as well but will never be the fan that he is. Ryan is going to 2 games this year-one this Sunday against the Rams and the other in Chicago on Oct 24th with my brother. That one is a little iffy since my due date is the 25th. I remind him all the time what a nice wife he has:-)Ashlyn was helping cheer on the skins Sunday but unfortunately they lost in OT:( Not a happy day in the Welborn Household! Here are a few pics of Ashlyn in her adorable jersey. Our little guys room is almost finished and actually turned out cuter than I thought (wasn't crazy about decorating it REDSKINS) but I probably won't post pics until after we can hang his name since its a secret.
